Markapuram: The establishment of a district having Markapuram as the headquarters is a long pending demand and it has its own advantages and qualifications, announced the team of negotiators from the region.

The team, under the leadership of retired additional joint collector Shaik Shamsher Ahmed met TTD Chairman YV Subbareddy in Tadepalli, where he inaugurated the research book, 'Authoritative and holistic information report on the proposed Markapuram district' and assured that he will take up the concerns of the public to the Chief Minister.

The members' team including Shamsher Ahmed, authors of the report retired deputy director Dr Annapureddy Veerareddy, senior journalist Venna Venkateswara Reddy, retired BC welfare officer Shaik Nazeer Ahmed, and other local representatives of the political and public organisations announced that Subbareddy justified the demand for Markapuram district by carving out the poor and backward western area from the Prakasam district, for its development.

He said that the state government is giving priority to complete irrigation projects in the state and Veligonda project is in the list of priority just after Polavaram in making the state as Harithandhra Pradesh. He appreciated the efforts of the bookmakers in compiling the history and background of Kanigiri, Darsi, Yerragondapalem, Giddalur and Markapuram assembly constituencies.

The team said that it had also met ministers Pilli Subhash Chandrabose and Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, Markapuram and Giddalur MLAs K Nagarjuna Reddy and Anna Rambabu also demanding the Markapuram district and presented the book as a support for their demand.
