Eluru: Tindora farmers under the auspices of AP Rythu Sangham staged dharna at Collectorate here, demanding compensation to crop affected by pest. They also demanded that the government provide support price for the produce. The agitators exhibited the affected yield and raised slogans for immediate action by the administration.
Speaking on the occasion, the sangham state assistant secretary K Srinivas said that the pest had affected the crop in hundreds of acres in the district. The farmers had invested about Rs 2.5 lakh per acre and incurred heavy loss due to the pest.
He demanded that the government immediately register the loss caused to farmers and announce Rs 1.5 lakh per acre compensation without delay. The sangham leaders G Venkata Krishnarao, K Bhaskararao and others spoke.
