Visakhapatnam: Congress senior leader from Telangana V Hanumantha Rao has appealed to Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy not to demolish the Rajiv Smruthi Bhavan in Visakhapatnam.

Speaking to media here on Friday, Hanumantha Rao said he had come to know about the tender process being taken up by the State government to dismantle the roof and parts of the building to accommodate changes in the structure.

He alleged that it was not a good idea to demolish the memorial and said it would amount to wiping off the memories of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi from the minds of people. The senior Congress leader wondered why Jagan Mohan Reddy was resorting to such extreme step.

He advised the Chief Minister to shed his destruction-demolition oriented-politics and strive to shift his focus to development activities, fulfilling the promises made ahead of elections to people.

Hanumantha Rao asked Jagan to drop the move to float tender to get Rajiv Smruthi Bhavan demolished. He said that it was a great place where tourists from across the country would converge and come to know about the achievements of Rajiv Gandhi during his regime.
