Referring to the statement of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in Assembly on Monday, Padma said that the state government was determined to protect girls at any cost. She said that delay in the judiciary in trying the accused should be avoided. "The guilty should be punished in 21 days after a new law is enacted," she said.
Padma assured the victims who gathered in good strength in the meeting that the commission would also take up the issue and see the problems are solved.
B Koteswara Rao, director of prosecution, advised the victims to approach the district legal services authority for redressal of their grievances.
Siddoji Rao, convener of IAS, IPS Officers Association, appealed to the government to set up a separate department to support and help the victims. It would be good if the victims are provided employment even it is contract job, he said.
Ravichandra, principal secretary of the social welfare department, said that the department was supposed to take up welfare of all people but it is now limited to SCs, STs and physically handicapped persons. "Several enactments are there but their implementation is questionable," he rued.
