GITAM to be in top global 100

Hyderabad: "There is a need for a radical shift in the way we approach higher education in this country, that empowers students and stays relevant to industry and society", said M Sri Bharat, President, GITAM Society.

Bharat addressed the faculty of GITAM Hyderabad Campus on Monday, as part of his interactions with faculty on all the three campuses of GITAM. In the interactive open house, he also invited feedback from the faculty for improving the organisation and warmly responded to their concerns.

Bharat spelt out four fundamental tenets that he wanted all the faculty to keep in mind: First, the vision to be in top global hundred institutions; second, to nurture a leadership-oriented culture; third, to set up systems such performance management system, to enable and not to disable the stakeholders; fourth, to promote values, such as integrity and accommodating diversity, that are to be distinctly identified as part of the organizational culture.

In response to the concerns and feedback expressed by the faculty of GITAM Hyderabad Campus, Bharat assured them that GITAM will continue to invest in all resources required to make education an enjoyable and empowering experience for its students. Apart from the continuing expenditure on physical infrastructure, a special emphasis will be laid on improving the intellectual resources in the GITAM institutes. Reforms have been set in motion in twelve areas based on the recommendations of the committees constituted for this purpose.

He advised the faculty to treat GITAM as a platform for their own personal growth in their chosen field of academics and not just treat the job as a source of income. He assured them that their performance and contribution will be objectively assessed and rewarded, strictly on meritocratic lines. Stricter norms will be followed to improve student discipline, attendance, and engagement.

Bharat warmly invited all the faculty members to join him in realising the vision of taking GITAM into a higher level of global repute. Earlier, Prof N Siva Prasad, Pro Vice-Chancellor, GITAM Hyderabad Campus welcomed Bharat, and described how Bharat has been leading reforms for greater student empowerment at GITAM.

Directors and Principals of institutions and heads of departments, and faculty of GITAM Hyderabad Campus participated in the session.
