Mangaluru: A swift and necessary response was undertaken by health officials in Mangaluru following a disgusting scene that was caught on video at a stall. The health officials have closed down the stall at the ongoing Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha temple fair, following a viral video that exposed the use of polluted water in the preparation of 'matka soda.'

The distressing footage reveals a startling lack of hygiene standards, with matka pots being washed in contaminated water and stall staff engaging in unsanitary practices.

The video in question, which circulated widely on social media, presented a troubling scene at the fair. It prominently showcased matka pots being “cleaned” with water clearly unfit for human consumption. The situation was exacerbated by the stall staff's habit of chewing tobacco, subsequently spitting it into the same water used for matka pot maintenance.

This unsanitary condition prompted the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) health officials to take immediate action. In a display of vigilance, they promptly descended upon the stall in question and officially closed it down.

With the immediate issue addressed, MCC health officials extended their vigilance to other stalls within the Kudroli temple fair. They conducted thorough inspections to ensure that the highest standards of cleanliness and safety were upheld. Stalls found wanting in this regard were cautioned, with a clear warning that any further lapses would result in their closure.

Such stringent measures are crucial, particularly in the context of public events and fairs, where a wide array of food and beverages are served. By taking swift action, the officials have demonstrated that hygiene cannot be compromised when it comes to ensuring the well-being of the community, especially in this case.
