Jubilee Hills/Madhapur: The Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar on Tuesday directed GHMC Commissioner M Dana Kishore to immediately inspect all the pubs and restaurants in the city whether they are complying with parking norms or not and submit a report within a fortnight.

"If any establishment is found without required parking space, action should be taken against such restaurants and pubs including serving closure notice, the MA &UD Principal Secretary had said in his order to the civic body.

Public visiting the pubs sans required parking spaces park their cars in the residential areas around. This is leading to a lot of inconvenience to the residents and at times triggers traffic jams, too.

"We frequently receive complaints from Jubilee Hills Road No.36 and Road No.45 . The complaints are mostly of parking consumer vehicles on the roadside, which is not only causing traffic problems but also causing nuisance to the residents of that area. We receive a minimum of 30 complaints every month," said A R Srinivas, DCP-West Zone.

According to building rules, every commercial establishment has to provide 44 per cent of their built-up area for parking and multiplexes should earmark 66 per cent of their built-up area for provision of parking.

"Pubs do have parking but they do not have adequate space to accommodate all the cars on a peak night, leading them to park their vehicles on the road sides." said E Shankar, the Sector-II SI. "A survey will be completed within a week, and action will be taken against erring managements," said a senior official of GHMC.
