Hyderabad: GHMC has set a target of Rs 500 crore for collection of property taxes under the early bird scheme for the financial year 2019-20. The government has recently issued orders declaring a debate of 5 per cent if property tax is paid before 30th of this month.

Accordingly, GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore issued orders to zonal commissioners, setting targets for property tax collections for each zone. The targets are each zone are as follows:

Of the proposed Rs 500 crore collections, it is envisaged that 50 per cent of the tax collections (Rs 250 crore) would be done by valuation officers, tax inspectors and bill collectors and 20 per cent (Rs 100 crore) through citizen service centres, 20 per cent (Rs 100 crore) through online and the remaining Rs 50 crore through MeeSeva centres.

Staff role critical

Commissioner Dana Kishore has decided to utilise GHMC employees such as valuation officers, tax inspectors and bill collectors in property tax collections from this financial year. Earlier, tax payers used to pay their property taxes at GHMC citizen service centres, online and MeeSeva centres. The staff primarily used to collect property taxes from non-residential property owners.

The Commissioner issued clear instructions to zonal commissioners to focus on property tax collections from non-residential properties as well this financial year and set daily targets. Bill collectors and MeeSeva centres have already started collecting taxes from Monday. Dana Kishore appealed to the residents of the city to avail the early bird opportunity and get a rebate 5 per cent in their property taxes.
