Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner Dana Kishore on Wednesday said that 81 per cent of desilting of nalas had been completed so far and the remaining work would be completed in this week.

He was speaking at the meeting to review progress of road repairs, catch-pits, manhole repairs and other works with engineers of GHMC maintenance department, held here at GHMC main office on Wednesday.

Chief engineer Ziauddin and executive engineers and superintendents participated in the meeting. Dana Kishore said that GHMC had undertaken desilting of nalas for 4,82,936 cubic metres of nalas, of which 3,93,341 cubic metres of work has already been completed.

He instructed the engineers to ensure that the rest of the works are completed within one week. GHMC has taken up 327 desilting works with an estimated cost of Rs 38.24 crore, which constitute 800.95 km of desilting, of which the works for 640 km of work has been completed, he said.

Of 327 desilting works, 214 were done manually and the remaining 113 works were done using machinery, he said. Dana Kishore said he had instructed the works as soon as possible as weather reports suggest the onset of monsoons in the next two to three days.

He ordered the officials to provide information on the progress of desilting works to the local MLAs and corporators. He ordered the officials to ensure that the social audit of the desilting works is done and leave no scope for any errors. In the coming days, most of the desilting works would be done using machinery, he said.

Kukatpally ahead of other divisions

Among the six zones of Greater Hyderabad, Kukatpally zone, with its six divisions, stood first as 90 per cent of desilting works have already been completed, followed by Serilingampally and Charminar divisions, he said. Dana Kishore instructed officials to arrange for additional staff and machinery in order to complete the desilting works before the onset of monsoons.
