Malkajgiri: To keep the highways, roads and nalas clean, the GHMC has undertaken a special sanitation drive to collect household scrap in the city.

As part of the drive, Malkajgiri circle of GHMC started collecting scrap in various colonies in the circle on Sunday. GHMC staff went door-to-door and collected scrap such as broken furniture, useless iron, plastic items, beds and other waste. They visited Renuka Nagar of Neredmet 136 division and collected scrap.

Speaking at the programme at Neredmet, GHMC Deputy Commissioner Dasharath said the drive would be conducted till November 12 in various colonies of East Anand Bagh, Malkajgiri, Vinayak Nagar and Moulali divisions. He said that GHMC officials were allotted various colonies as part of the drive and residents were duly informed about the details officials responsible for their areas.

He warned that serious action would be taken against those who litter plastic bags and other waste on roads. Heavy fines would be imposed on offenders, he added. GHMC supervisors, sanitation staff and colony residents attended the programme.
