Abdullapurmet: Workers of various Gram Panchayats (GP) in Abdullapurmet mandal on Monday resorted to begging, under the auspices of CITU, here, to protest against non-payment of salaries for the last six months.

Addressing the protestors, leader of district CITU L Narsimha said the families of the workers were finding it difficult to sustain themselves because of non-receipt of salaries. Some who had taken loans were unable to pay back and faced the prospect of suicide. Many with meager income were struggling to meet ends.

Narsimha pointed out that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had failed to honour his promise of raising salaries after the workers had gone on a 40-day strike. He alleged that since most of the workers were dalits neither the government nor people's representatives, besides officials, were not responding to the plight of workers. He commented whether 'Bangaru Telangana' meant denying salaries to workers.

Among those who participated in the novel protest were SFI mandal president K Nagendra, KVPS mandal secretary B Prabhakar, Chandramma, Ashok, Venkatamma, Yadamma, Maisamma.
