Hyderabad: Telangana BJP on Sunday condemned calling that the Nalgonda police acted in a high-handed manner with the displaced poor farmers in Nampally mandal, Kishtarampally reservoir in that district.

BJP Telangana State chief spokesperson K Krishna Saagar Rao said that his party strongly condemns the way police dealt with the displaced poor farmers. "Over 300 women along with their families have lost their land for the reservoir project.

They have protested for rehabilitation and compensation for their displacement." But, police cruelly lathi-charged the women, resulting in many injured and some even fainted, he said. BJP strongly condemns this unacceptable use of brute force by police on peacefully demonstrating women, who are protesting for their right for rehabilitation.Despite many assurances, he said that the displaced in this region haven't been compensated.

The State government did not comply with the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act that specifies a procedure to provide compensation and rehabilitation when the land acquisition has been taken up for government projects. Rao said that his party demands Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao take immediate action to address the demands of the displaced farmers, by providing compensation as per law, at the earliest.
