Narapally: Employees of Infosys initiated a clean-up drive in the stretch of 2.5 km from CPRI near Medipally to Nandanavanam Park in Narapally here on Sunday. 175 kg of garbage and 400 liquor bottles were collected.

A member of Eco-Prakriti Club of Infosys, Sai Santosh, along with his friends Sandeep, Prasad and Shiva, found the best way to spend the weekend by collecting trash from the stretch.

Sai Santosh, an employee of Infosys, said, "We selected this area as many people visit the place on weekends. It also attracts a lot of drunkards. Litter piles up within no time." To catch the attention of the passersby and nearby vendors and to create a positive impact, trash was collected and dumped on the roadside.

With this initiative it brought about a huge change in the attitude of local vendors, as they started adopting paper cups instead of plastic glasses. Later, Peerzadiguda Municipal Commissioner Alluri was informed about the initiative.

"When we began this drive in the first week of October we were only four to five friends and slowly many joined us. So far, we completed seven weeks and now we have more than 18 volunteers. We started an awareness campaign in the nearby area on the need to maintain cleanliness, Sai said.

The drive would be carried on for some more weeks until every individual starts thinking about the environment and stops littering. Infosys gave its support to conduct this drive, added Sai.
