Vijayawada: The members of Indian Medical Association (IMA) staged a protest here on Thursday, demanding that the Central government unconditionally withdraw the National Medical Council (NMC) Bill which will be presented in the Parliament.

They expressed their displeasure over the central government's 'careless attitude' towards the doctors and described the decision taken by the government as senseless. Later, they set fire to the copies of the Bill.

Addressing the media, they said that all the doctors across the country were against the NMC and were participating in the protest. They said that the central government was acting harshly towards the doctors.

They demanded that the Central government maintain the old Medical Council of India with a few changes. They alleged that members of NMC were not from the medical field and IAS officials were being appointed which was objectionable. They further said that with the NMC bill the students pursuing medicine will also be in great loss, they said.

IMA president Dr TV Ramana Murthy, honorary secretary Dr Ch Manoj Kumar, chairman Dr MSC Bose, Dr MA Rahaman, Dr Rasik Sanghvi, secretary of women doctors wing Dr PV Durga Rani were present.
