PM Modi, in his address to the nation on Tuesday night, stressed on the need to stay indoors and compared the countrywide lockdown to a curfew. He reminded the citizens of the country that only essential services were exempted from the lockdown and that citizens would have access to them.

PM Modi appealed to his fellow-citizens to rise to the occasion and help the government battle the deadly coronavirus. The people of the country could do so by following government instructions and staying indoors, he observed.

Shortly after the announcement of nationwide lockdown by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued a set of guidelines spelling out essential services which were exempted from the lockdown and those which were banned.
