The coronavirus pandemic in the country continues to sweep through all states with the daily tally crossing 7,000 cases for the first time. The countrywide count has now climbed to 1,65,799, as per the latest data put out by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The nationwide death toll has mounted to 4,706. India has overtaken Turkey become the eighth worst-hit country in the world.
Maharashtra continues to report high numbers of coronavirus positive cases. The state's COVID-19 tally has now reached 59,546. The death count in the state stands at 1982.
Mumbai contributes about a fifth of the country's COVID-19 case load. The highest number of cases in Maharashtra also come from Mumbai with the tally from the Maximum City now crossing the 35,000 mark. The total number of cases from Mumbai now stands at 35,273. Mumbai has reported 1,135 deaths from coronavirus so far. 1,483 coronavirus positive cases were reported on Thursday from Mumbai.
Tamil Nadu has so far recorded confirmed 19,372 COVID-19 cases with a low fatality rate of 145 deaths.
Delhi has also been recording high numbers COVID-19 with the total count in the national capital reaching 16,281. The national capital has recorded 316 deaths so far. Experts maintain that the high numbers in Delhi are related to the high testing levels in the national capital of about 9,000 per million. 250 ventilators are currently available for patients in Delhi, media reports say with more than 2100 people in institutional facility. Over 4200 in Delhi are in home isolation and are under surveillance of the Health Department officials. The national capital has 100 containment zones. Delhi has reported a mortality of 1.2% and a recovery rate of 46%.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Gujarat has reached 15,562. However, Gujarat has been facing flak for not testing enough. The Gujarat High Court had also come down heavily on facilities in the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad describing it "as a dungeon." The death count in Gujarat has reached 960.
Rajasthan has reported 8067 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and has seen 180 deaths.
Madhya Pradesh has reported 7453 confirmed COVID-19 cases with a mortality rate of 321 deaths.
