On Friday, in Surat a fire had broke out, at a coaching centre in a four-storey building, by which 21 people, mostly teenagers were killed.

On Saturday, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani had said, "It was unfortunate, more than 20 youth died. We have constituted an investigation committee, Urban Secretary has been asked to file a report based on which we will take action. Builder and Manager have been arrested."

Because of the incident that occurred, Surat Deputy chief fire officer SK Acharya and Fire Officer Kirti Modh have also been suspended.

As per reports, majority of the people stuck in the fire died due to suffocation or by jumping off the building to escape the inferno.

A video on social media has shown that, students at the Takshashila Complex in Sarthana could were jumping off the third and fourth floors as the fire intensified and blocked all exits.

The fire was reported a result of a short circuit and a complaint has been registered against three people, including the builder and manager of the complex.

A student, who was present when the fire broke out, said, "There was smoke, I did not know what to do. I took the ladder, first helped the children get out of the place, managed to save 8-10 people. Later I managed to rescue 2 more students. Fire brigade came after 40-45 minutes."
