Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a landmark employment scheme for Uttar Pradesh aimed at providing jobs to migrant workers via video interaction on Friday. The scheme, 'Aatma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rozgar Abhiyan' would provide 1.25 crore jobs in 31 districts for 125 days.

As per the scheme, 60 lakh workers are likely to get work each day. The job scheme is schedule to provide employment to migrant workers who lost their jobs during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Prime Minister Modi launched the employment scheme through a video link. The Prime Minister interacted with workers from Self-Help Groups and asked them about the challenges they faced. PM Modi also spoke to migrant workers who returned to their home state from Mumbai and other places and enquired about their condition.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath outlined the contours of the scheme and also spelt out the facilities provided to migrant workers. The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister referred to the special trains for migrant workers, transportation facilities to their villages and treatment for coronavirus in quarantine and isolation facilities.

The Uttar Pradesh chief minister in his video interaction observed that 1.25 crore jobs would be provided in the state to migrant workers. Opposition parties in the state, however, have questioned the numbers being put out by the Yogi Adityanath government. Leaders of opposition parties including Samajwadi Party Chief, Akhilesh Yadav, have asked the Yogi Adityanath government to share accurate data on the employment scheme and called the numbers put out by the UP government as incorrect.
