Hyderabad: Thanks to Cumulonimbus, Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana received rains accompanied by thunderstorms. The state which was reeling under high temperatures touching 40 degrees Celsius during the day suddenly witnessed cool weather bringing cheers to the people of the state.

In Hyderabad city, Kukatpally, Dilsukhnagar, Khairatabad, Secunderabad, Bowenpally, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Sainikpuri and AS Rao Nagar bore the brunt of sudden rains. Power supply was disrupted in many parts of the city.

The timely intervention of GHMC authorities avoided water logging at traffic junctions in the busy evening hours. Since it was time for employees to go home, traffic snarls were witnessed at many places.

According to reports, a person by name Shivaji died due to electrocution under SR Nagar police station limits in Hyderabad and another person Shikha Chandraiah died while he was extracting toddy from a palm tree which collapsed due to heavy winds in Mallapur village in Yadadri district.

In another incident, a poultry shed collapsed due to rain. In Chalmakada village in Munugodu mandal of Nalgonda district, nearly Rs 20-lakh worth property was damaged. Trees were uprooted in many areas under the influence of heavy winds and sudden downpour. The city turned dark with black clouds when rains lashed the city.

The suburban areas were hit by hailstorm. Hyderabad MET officials forecast moderate to heavy rains in Hyderabad and various parts of the state during next three days.

The Revenue and Agriculture departments have been asked to take up rescue measures before the monsoon enters the state during second week of June.
