Where is Abdullah?
Is he under detention? SC asks Centre
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a show-cause notice to the Central government and State of Jammu and Kashmir on a habeas corpus petition filed by MDMK chief and Rajya Sabha MP Vaiko, seeking production of former Chief Minister of J&K Farooq Abdullah before the court.
Abdullah is currently under detention in Srinagar for more than a month now since the Modi government scrapped the semi-autonomous status of the state and divided it into two Union Territories.
Hearing the petition, a bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, Justices S A Bobde and Abdul Nazeer inquired from the Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta whether Abdullah was under detention.
To this, SG relied, "he will seek instruction". The bench then fixed Vaiko's plea for hearing on September 30.
