Amendments not valid, says justice Sudershan Reddy, AP Reorganisation Bill. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Janardhan Reddy said the State government had no right to seek amendments to the Bill.

Hyderabad: Former Supreme Court Judge B Sudershan Reddy on Tuesday told the Telangana leaders that they need not worry about the amendments that are proposed to be moved to the AP Reorganisation Bill in the Assembly.

Reddy told the leaders, who called on him at his residence here on Tuesday, that the President had referred the Bill to the Assembly under Article 3 of the Constitution to seek opinion of the legislature. ‘‘Even if the members move amendments to the clauses in the draft Telangana Bill, they cannot become part of the Bill as the Assembly has no such right. All that the Assembly can do is to forward these amendments as part of the opinion expressed by the members. It would be for the Centre to take a final call on the issue. If any amendment has to be made, it should be done by the Centre, he felt.

Minister for Panchayat Raj K Jana Reddy, TDP leaders Revuri Prakash Reddy and A Revanth Reddy, TRS leaders K Keshava Rao, KT Rama Rao, E Rajendar and T Harish Rao and BJP leader N Janardhan Reddy were among the leaders who called on Sudershan Reddy.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Janardhan Reddy said the State government had no right to seek amendments to the Bill.

“The Assembly also does not have any right to seek voting on the Bill. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is making false claims on the issue,’’ he added.

TDP senior leader R Prakash Reddy said the former Judge told them that the amendments to Bill in Assembly would not create any problem in carving out the Telangana State.
