Utnoor: The 225 residential and 906 primary schools being run by the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) face an uncertain future affecting the interests of as many as 17,000 students.

Even after six months of the commencement of the academic year, students are yet to get their uniforms, cosmetics and other items, which are normally made available to them at the beginning of the academic year itself.

The Tribal Welfare Department spends lakhs on the students’ uniforms. However, because of the alleged indifference of officials, uniforms are yet reach them, alleged the Girijana Sangham leaders and students like Sai Kumar, Raju, Ganesh and student organisation leader Vedma Bhojju.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, they said that in the absence of uniforms, the students were being forced to wear torn clothes after repeatedly washing them. ‘They were forced to attend the Independence Day function sporting varying clothes, much to the disappointment and dismay of the gathering’.

The leaders expressed anguish that the department officials have failed to note this shortcoming when the government is determined to provide quality education to tribals.

They accuse the administration of adopting a negligent attitude in negating the government’s resolve to provide quality education in the ITDA institutions on a par with that being offered by private/corporate schools. The students demanded immediate provision of uniforms to them by the government.
