A two-day national seminar on ‘Women in mathematics with special reference to Lilavati’ will be held at Maris Stella College in the city from Friday. College principal Sr Kulrekha Mudartha on Wednesday said that the mathematics department would organise the seminar with an aim to bring top mathematicians in the country on a single platform.

College principal Sr Kulrekha Mudartha on Wednesday said that the mathematics department would organise the seminar with an aim to bring top mathematicians in the country on a single platform.

“It would discuss the recent trends and advancements in the field of mathematics. Seven lectures would be held during the seminar and there would be two exclusive sessions for paper presentation,” she said. Head of mathematics department (undergraduate) G Usha Kumari said that the number of delegates attending the seminar was restricted to 40, including research scholars, lecturers and students.

“Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam former vice-chancellor G Sarojamma would inaugurate the seminar and Prof. BH Satyanarayana of Acharya Nagarjuna University would attend its valedictory function. Research papers would be presented on the recent trends in mathematics, ancient Indian mathematics, the history of mathematics, women in mathematics and other relevant topics during the seminar,” Usha added.
