The Department of Zoology of Maris Stella College organised a guest lecture on `Employment Potential of Aquaculture’ here on Friday. Delivering the guest lecture, Bandaru Srinivasa Rao, an aquaculturist of Vatticherukuru village in Guntur district who is a recipient of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Award, said aquatic organisms are the most important source of animal protein to people. Abundant and low cost protein rich food can be produced through aquaculture for an overpopulated country like India, he said.

His lecture covered employment opportunities in aquaculture, utilisation of available natural water resources, earning of foreign exchange through aqua exports, culture of ornamental fish for export, enhancement of quality of aqua products and other relevant topics. Maris Stella College principal Sr Kulrekha Mudartha, Zoology Head of Department Sr Japamalai, lecturers Nitya Jeeva Prada, Ratna Kumar, Sushma and others were present. Students of third year BSc CBZ and ornamental fish certificate course attended the programme.
