Hero Maestro discontinued as Honda technical tie-up to end soon

The scooter market has become very significant for every two-wheeler maker (other than Bajaj of course). Hero wasn’t doing well in scooters earlier but brought in the Maestro which changed its fate in the automatic geared segment. The Maestro wasn’t a long term strategy as it was a badge engineered Honda Activa with cosmetic changes. Hero was paying royalty to Honda for the Maestro which has stopped now as the scooter has been discontinued.
Hero launched the Maestro Edge in 2015 which is doing good numbers for the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer. The company has developed the Maestro Edge on its own, using its own engine. The world’s largest two-wheeler firm has removed the Maestro from its website which now shows only three scooters Maestro Edge, Duet and Pleasure.
Hero is relying on its own R and D in which it has invested heavily. The company showcased 125cc and 150cc scooters at the 2014 Auto Expo but nothing has gone on sale yet. Even the HX250R quarter-litre bike, which created waves among enthusiasts, has failed to hit the market. The hype for Hero’s Karizma replacement seemed real but now no one even remembers the EBR developed motorcycle.
