Skoda has launched its first ever seven-seater SUV in India, the Kodiaq. The Kodiaq has been priced at Rs 34,49 lakh (ex-showroom) and it is available in only one variant. With the launch of the Kodiaq, the Czech carmaker marks its re-entry into the booming SUV segment in India.

The Skoda Kodiaq is an SUV with immense road presence. Named after an Alaskan bear called Kodiak, the Kodiaq does look rugged. Up front, you get the signature Skoda butterfly grille finished in chrome and flanked by LED headlamps with LED DRLs on either sides. The LED fog lamps have been placed quite close to the headlamps.

The hood gets a similar treatment as seen on other Skoda cars. The massive squared wheel arches and 18-inch alloy wheels add character to the side profile. The neatly done shoulder line that runs all the way from the front fender till the rear fender emphasises the length of the SUV. The tail-lights get LED treatment and will remind you of the Superb.

The interior of the Kodiaq gets a more upright dashboard design. The multi-function steering wheel is similar to the ones seen in other Skoda cars. The eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will take care of the audio needs.

The interior of the Kodiaq also features a Power Nap Package. So if you’re in the mood for a small nap, the rear seats get deployable flaps on either side of the headrests (so that your head doesn’t roll off the cushion) and what will make the nap even more comfortable are the two blankets! The SUV also gets a panoramic sunroof.

The India-spec Kodiaq gets only the 2.0-litre diesel motor that churns out 150 HP and 340 Nm of torque. The oil-burner comes mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox only. Skoda also offers 4×4 and has a claimed fuel-efficiency of 16.25 km/l. There are five driving modes – Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow and Individual.

Skoda has abundantly loaded the Kodiaq with features like headlamps with auto-function leveller, cornering function for the fog lamps, electric tailgate with auto opening function, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, hands-free parking and a removable torch in the boot. On the safety front, the SUV gets nine airbags, ABS, ESP, traction control and all-around parking sensors with reverse parking camera.
