Students studying in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) schools enthusiastically participated in the cultural programmes conducted by VMC at Kandukuri Kalyana Mandapam in Gandhi Nagar on Thursday. 

Students studying in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) schools enthusiastically participated in the cultural programmes conducted by VMC at Kandukuri Kalyana Mandapam in Gandhi Nagar on Thursday.

As part of the preparations for the Children’s’ Day on November 14, the city mayor Koneru Sridhar and municipal commissioner J Nivas inaugurated the cultural programmes competitions for the children. Students from 26 high schools and 25 elementary schools joyfully participated in the cultural programmes and displayed their dancing skills. Group dances were performed to the tunes of patriotic songs, film songs and folk songs.

Speaking on the occasion mayor Koneru Sridhar said that the VMC has decided to conduct the Children’s Day celebrations in a grand manner. He stated that the VMC is urging the students of VMC schools to excel in education, sports and cultural programmes. He announced efforts were in place to develop infrastructure in the 120

Municipal commissioner J Nivas said the VMC has conducted Teachers Day in a grand fashion and is planning to organise Children’s Day in similar manner. He congratulated children for exhibiting their dancing skills.

Deputy mayor Gogula Venkata Ramana Rao, Traffic and sports committee chairman Jasti Sambasiva Rao, cultural and education committee chairperson Devineni Aparna, Deputy educational officer K Durga Prasad, corporators and officials participated in the event. The VMC will distribute prizes to the winners on November 14 on Children’s Day celebrations. The venue for the November 14 programme has not been announced yet.
