Bhimavaram: Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) West Godavari circle Superintending Engineer Ch Satyanarayana Reddy said that high capacity transformers would be established in various substations, following the heavy usage of power beyond the expectations in the aqua sector.

He inaugurated the SANKALP-2017 national students’ symposium held at SRKR Engineering College in Bhimavaram on Thursday.

The symposium would be conducted for two days. College Electrical and Electronics head of the Department P Kantha Rao presided over the inaugural meeting. He said that already 5MVA transformers have been replaced with 8 MVA in 33/11 KV Substations and 13.5MVA transformers have replaced with 50 MVA transformers in 133/11 KV substations.

Besides this, the 100MVA capacity transformers would be replaced with 160 MVA transformers in 220KV Sub-Stations. Besides this, High Voltage Distribution Transformers would also be set up in the substations, he added.

He said that by June, the power supply would be strengthened in the district with this establishment. He stated that the line losses were decreased at present. In 2012-13, the line losses recorded at 9.43 percent whereas it was reduced to 6.49 percent, he added. Following the reduction in line losses, the EPDCL has got Rs 100 crore profit.

He suggested the Engineering students to study the substations and power distribution systems.In-charge Principal Dr GV Padmaraju said that every year the college was conducting symposiums to provide knowledge to the students.

Prof DJV Prasad, Veeranna, student representatives K Sudheer, KSK Sailaja participated in the inaugural meeting. The EEE department head and professors felicitated SE Satyanarayana Reddy who got several awards at national-level.
