Kanigiri: The Oxford School in Kanigiri gave a grand welcome to Sankranthi festival with their students. Girl students dressed in the Langa Voni, a traditional Telugu attire, while the boys came in Panchekattu.

The school director, BJV Praveen Kumar narrated about the Sankranthi festival and the traditions linked with it to the children present. “It is the time the women make Pongali in pots used for Bhogi when the farmers bring home the produce from the farms,” he said. He informed that Gangireddulu and Haridasulu visit households to shower blessings and take offerings.

As part of the festival celebrations, teachers and students designed the colorful Rangavallulu. The children were blessed by pouring the Bhogipandlu on their heads. The teachers said that making the children a part of these programmes help them to understand the culture and traditions of the soil and encourages them to continue them. The teachers, Bhavani, Bhulakshmi, Bhargavi, Santhi, Suchi Kumari, Seetha, Sangeetha, Jyotsna, Madhavi, Durga and the principal Shiyaz also participated in the Sankranthi celebrations.
