Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Officers Mahila Samithi (OOMS) is a glaring example for its social service activities, which is also taking care of the wives of ONGC officers along with wives of other employees working in the organisation.

Speaking to ‘The Hans India’ here on Thursday, the OOMS president, D Durga Bhavani said that OOMS came into existence along with the emergence of ONGC Rajamahendravaram Asset nearly two-and-a- half decades ago. The OOMS aimed to avoid dullness among the wives of ONGC officials and make them happy. It also imbibes self-confidence in them by conducting various programmes and competitions.
On every first and third Wednesday, the OOMS conducts competitions and talk show for its members to avoid the feeling of loneliness as many ONGC officers are away from home on duty. Moreover, a skill development centre was also proposed to impart training in tailoring, painting and embroidery etc for its members.
“The OOMS is contemplating to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, followed by a bone density medical camp to all the womenfolk of ONGC working fraternity. Plans are afoot to conduct medical camps in the fields of ortho, cardiology, BP, diabetes etc on its own or jointly with some non-governmental organisations to all.
A mega medical camp has also been planned for tribals in Rampachodavaram and to supply nutritious food to pregnant women as many pregnant women are facing problems due to malnutrition. It also devised an action plan to visit ONGC sites to organise awareness programmes on various things to the people relating to that area, who are facing problems with their habits.
OOMS is also thinking to extend help to the students of BPL, who proved their talent by studying in municipal corporation schools and it also put in efforts to tap their hidden talent. Meanwhile, an action plan also to be devised to help the children of ONGC employees. Yoga, meditation and stress management programmes are also under pipeline along with cyber awareness programme,” she explained.
Durga Bhavani said that a fun cricket was also conducted for its members which received good response. “At present OOMS is getting an annual amount between Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh under ONGC's Corporate Social Responsibility, which was spending for social service activities. Recently, the OOMS extended help to the inmates of Kasturba Memorial Trust Asramam, to an old age home in Dowleswaram, along with Zion Blind School.
The organization is having 84 members of them 11 are office bearers. All ONGC assets are having OOMS across the country and they works under the aegis of central commitee located at New Delhi. On a whole, OOMS committed for social service activities along with taking care of OOMS members and it appears where its help is needed,” she added.
The OOMS vice-president, Seema Pandey, secretary P Krishna Kumari, joint secretary Ratna Biswas, treasurer Padma Latha, executive members SR Devi, Madhiari Agarwal, Shimi Kanniraj, Swapna Srinivas, Jyothi Venugopal and Mani Rao were present.
