Chandrababu Naidu to be forcibly given IV fluids

NEW DELHI: The health condition of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, who was admitted to a hospital here, on Saturday deteriorated as his hunger strike against bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh continued for the sixth day and doctors said he will be forcibly given intravenous fluids.

"A team of doctors tried to persuade Naidu to break his fast and to take glucose and vitamins. But he is refusing to take it and henceforth, we have decided to forcibly administer intravenous drips of DNS and vitamins," said Dr H K Kar, medical superintendent of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

"His liver, kidney and heart functioning is deteriorating and cardiac enzymes have increased. His uric acid level and potassium level has also increased which means he is utilising his calories reserved," Kar said.

The doctors said that the TDP leader who was shifted to the hospital on Friday had a peaceful sleep at night. "His life is important for us. His determination is firm and he has strong will power," Kar said about Naidu whose hunger strike entered sixth day on Saturday.

On the fifth day of his hunger strike yesterday against Telangana creation, the TDP chief was forcibly evicted by police from Andhra Bhawan here amid high drama and chaos. Naidu was on hunger strike on the premises since Monday to protest against bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and demanding "justice" for all.

A team of doctors comprising a cardiologist, two physicians and four resident doctors are monitoring the condition of Naidu at the RML Hospital.
