Hyderabad: In-charge Director-General of Police (DGP) B Prasada Rao has been appointed as Director-General of Police. State government on Friday issued an order selecting him as the Head of the police force. Earlier, Rao, director of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), was posted as the in-charge DGP following retirement of V Dinesh Reddy on September 30.
The State government selected him to the post by following the due procedure and taking into account the panel of three IPS officers recommended by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) after duly considering his service records and range of experience.
Hailing from Guntur, he worked as commissioner of police in the city and Visakhapatnam. He was superintendent of police for Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts. The 1979 IPS batch officer will serve the office for a period of two years.
Later, on the day, Prasada Rao assumed charges as DGP. He met Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar and thanked him for giving an opportunity to serve as the police chief of the State.
