Hyderabad: IPS officer and former additional DGP J Purnachander Rao took over as the vice-chairman and managing director of AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) on Saturday. Incidentally, Purnachander’s father Radhakrishna had worked as a bus conductor in the APSRTC decades back and the new VC and MD described it as a proud day to have taken over the charge.
Rao revealed this while interacting with media persons after taking charge as the new VC and MD. “My father Radhakrishna, was a conductor in RTC. He struggled a lot for my education. Today, whatever I am, it is because of my father. I will try hard for the betterment of this corporation,” he said.Tenders for 1,500 new buses under JNNURM project
On the sidelines outgoing VC and MD AK Khan said that APSRTC, which had received poor quality buses under JNNURM project, was now ready with a new proposal for buses and would begin tender process again. This time the corporation would only buy chasis and build 'sturdy' buses suitable for the road conditions here, on its own.
After handing over charge to Purnachander, AK Khan said, “The proposal has been prepared and new tenders will be floated now. This time we have taken into consideration all the difficulties that we have faced in the earlier batch of buses, among which the three main problems were cost factor, suitability of the buses to the roads and mechanical specifications. This time we are going to get only the chasis and the buses will be built by APSRTC as the corporation is capable of building buses,” said Khan.
