Hyderabad: TDP on Sunday demanded that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy lobby with the Centre for constitution of a new tribunal in the place of Brijesh Kumar Tribunal and make strong efforts to nullify the tribunal’s fresh verdict on Krishna water sharing between Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharastra by filing a petition in Supreme Court. In a letter to Kiran, party president N Chandrababu Naidu suggested the Chief Minister to convene an all-party meeting and seek their opinion on how to tackle the issue and render justice to the State regarding the allocation of Krishna water following the tribunal’s nod to utilise surplus waters by the two upper riparian States.
Alleging that the negligent attitude of the State government paid heavy price to the State in water allocation, he said that the farmers under Krishna canal ayacut would be hit hard with the increase of Almatti dam’s height. It was unfortunate that the State government did not pay heed to the demand to mount pressure on the Centre and stop increasing the height of the dam keeping in mind the interests of farmers.
He claimed that his party maintained a status quo on the height of Almatti by filing petitions in the tribunal during his nine-year rule. Meanwhile, to protest against the tribunal’s verdict, the TDP is going to organise a massive dharna at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada on Wednesday, demanding that the Centre and the State governments intervene and do justice to AP. Naidu will take part in the day-long dharna.
