Karimnagar: The police on Monday solved the sensational case of robbery of two kg gold from the Deccan Grameena Bank at Kataram mandal centre. They recovered 1,522 gm of gold and Rs.9.81 lakh from the arrested contract bank employee Chityala Ganesh (27), who is an attender. Over Rs.5 lakh is yet to be recovered.
Ganesh, hailing from Charlapalli village in Jinnaram mandal of Adilabad district, had won the confidence of the bank staff, with whom he maintained friendly relations. He was entrusted all works, including the operation of lockers, containing gold pledged by customers. He had periodically stolen two kg of yellow metal, after being tempted by seeing kilos of it.
Superintendent of Police V Shiva Kumar, who produced Ganesh before the media said the gold was stolen from a locker of a customer, who made inquiries with the staff after finding his stock missing. The police got suspicious as locks of the locker were found intact. The staff after making an inventory found that gold of 23 customers was missing and lodged a police complaint.
