Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Railway Station witnessed a ghastly incident on Tuesday when a 'psycho' attacked and killed a 6-year-old girl Priyadarshini in Secunderabad Railway Station with a sharp weapon on Tuesday afternoon.

According to her parents, the incident occurred around 2 pm. Priyadarshini was waiting with her grandmother on platform No 10 to board a train to Sholapur. The family was to attend a wedding there.

The girl’s father Srinivas, a resident of Musheerabad and an executive at a call centre, had just gone to the reservation counter when the culprit appeared out of nowhere.

Pretending to play with the child, Kumar, a first degree student who was identified as a psycho, suddenly took out a sharp object and attacked her repeatedly.

Even as horrified passengers were looking on, he dragged her to some distance, before letting go of her. The child lay, writhing in pain, and succumbed to injuries on the spot. The onlookers rushed to spot and tried to catch him. The man then tried to attack them also. He was finally overpowered with the help of railway police, and was thrashed soundly before handing him over to the police. The psycho was admitted to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad for treatment for injuries.

According to police, Kumar, aged around 35 and belonging to Chittoor district. They are trying to ascertain the cause of the murder. They said several cases had been registered against him.

The girl’s body was shifted to Gandhi hospital for post-mortem. The inconsolable parents said they had decided to donate their daughter's eyes in order to keep her memories alive. Later, they would take the body to their native place Siddipet in Medak district for last rites.

Assailant a degree student from Chittoor

Tirupati: Police on Tuesday confirmed that the assailant who stabbed a girl to death on the platform No 10 at Secunderabad railway station was a mentally ill person Kumar from Chittoor district. Kumar is a native of Pannuru village of Vijayapuram mandal in Chittoor district. As he was suffering from mental illness and attacking neighbours, his father Govindaswamy locked him up in the house for the past five years. After prolonged treatment, his mental condition showed an improvement, and he was admitted in degree first year at SRS College in Puttur. However, for the last three days he was reported missing. Vijayapuram police identified the accused in stabbing incident as Kumar.
APBHS condemns killing
Andhra Pradesh Balala Hakkula Sangham (APBHS) strongly condemned the murder of the six-year-old girl at Secunderabad Railway Station in the hands of a 'psycho' and said that this exhibits the poor safety measures in the city railway stations. Stern action should be taken against the railway authorities for the security lapses that led to the attack and murder of the child and Rs 5 lakh compensation should be given to the girl’s family,” demanded Achyuta Rao, President APBHS.
