Kakinada: Capabilities of the Coast Guard Station here would be enhanced with the inclusion of high-speed inshore patrolling vessel ‘ICGS Rajdhwaj’, Director of Ports PM Chandra Mohan said here on Tuesday.

He attended as the chief guest in the basing ceremony of the vessel which reached local jetty during the day to render services.

Chandra Mohan said coastal protection was significant as part of the port activities following increasing exploration for oil and natural gas and productive activities along the State coastline.

Explaining salient features of the vessel, commanding officer of the coast guard station Commandant RK Sharma said ‘Rajdhwaj’, the 50-meter water jet propelled eight high-speed in-shore patrolling vessels.

It could reach a speed of 31.5 nautical miles and travel 1,500 nautical miles, with 14 nautical speed. He explained that the vessel was capable of taking up patrolling, exploration, protection and interception aided by modern navigation and communication equipment. One in-shore patrol vessel and two interceptor boats are providing services from the Kakinada ICGS. Strength of the station would be enhanced with the inclusion of ‘Rajdhwaj’.
