- Inconvenience caused to pilgrims
- Functioning of wings, various services hit
- Vehicles stranded at toll gate
- SIFY experts from Chennai rush to take up repairs
Tirupati: With the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) servers down, the on-line issuance of accommodation, ‘Arjitha seva’(paid sevas), e-darshan and functioning of many of TTD wings, including that of the Joint Executive Officer, here, the toll gate, at Alipiri, down the hills, remained affected for about four hours. The servers of both the service providers, BSNL and SIFY, crashed, bringing the various TTD services to a halt till experts worked, restoring them.
The services were disrupted since 10 am. Experts from Chennai came rushing to restore the servers of SIFY while the BSNL staff here ensured that the on-line system was restored. SIFY is one of the major donors to TTD, helping it to take up many schemes and buildings, including the new massive ‘Anndanam’ complex, where free food is provided to 30,000 pilgrims daily. With the on-line services coming to a halt, pilgrims were put to inconvenience following the delay in getting accommodation and also seva tickets for the Lord’s ‘darshan’. Long queues of pilgrims were seen at the three points where accommodation was being provided on payment basis and also free. Vehicles passing through the toll gate were stranded due to the delay in issuing receipts for the entry fee. Fortunately, as it was a lean season because of cold December month, the pilgrim rush was comparatively less than other peak months.
According to reliable sources, hanging of servers was almost a regular feature, be it for a few minutes almost daily, much to the inconvenience of pilgrims, due to poor service of the service providers. But TTD is still to act and pull them up to improve the service.
