Hyderabad: Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has been maintaining stoic silence on the issue of bifurcation of the state as well as his future political moves ever since he returned from New Delhi after attending the meeting of the Congress Chief Ministers chaired by party president Sonia Gandhi, and his meeting with party vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
Many MPs and MLAs, who do not see any future being in Congress party, are looking up to him to launch a new political party. But Kiran continues to keep his cards close to his chest. Though several leaders like Vundavalli Arun Kumar, G Harsha Kumar, Ananta Venkataram Reddy and Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy met him on Monday, they could not glean anything about his next move. All that he told them was to wait till January 23.
A senior minister and an MLA who were privy to Kiran’s Delhi visit are also clueless. They told The Hans India that ever since Kiran met Rahul Gandhi he has been maintaining silence. Since it was a closed door meeting, they were not aware of what exactly transpired at the meeting. They claim that the only reply they got from Kiran when they tried to find out what happened at the meeting was just a smile.
This attitude of the Chief Minister has dampened the spirits of those who are pinning hopes on him to launch new party. MP Harsha Kumar feels that it would be advantageous for him to contest as an independent candidate. People of the region are very angry with the Congress for its decision to divide the state, he said. Minister for minor irrigation TG Venkatesh said he had invitations from all political parties. He said he was waiting to know the mind of Chief Minister before taking a final decision.
The indecisiveness on the part of Kiran is keeping many leaders like S Sailjanath, Lagadapati Rajagopal and others on tenterhooks. Many of the Seemandhra Congress leaders feel that any further delay in taking a decision on launching the new political outfit would mar their chances in other parties like YSRCP or TDP which are in the process of finalising candidates for the 2014 elections.
