SI, Forest Ranger Hurt In Attack By Armed Gang. A Police Sub-Inspector, Somasekhar, and task force range officer Hemachandra sustained serious injuries when they were attacked by a gang of inter-state offenders on the outskirts of Juvvaladinne in Bogula mandal in the district on Friday evening.

A task force team from Chittoor district was on the look-out for red sanders smugglers. The Task Force team had earlier tracked down a smuggler with the help of his BSNL cell phone.
Juvvaladinne Sarpanch Kondaiah informed The Hans India that as the team lay in wait for the smuggler, he became aware of their presence and informed a gang of robbers belonging to Kapparalla Tippa to rescue him. Soon, a 20-member armed gang attacked the cops from behind. The two officers sustained injuries, while the others took to their heels. Meanwhile, the villagers of Juvvaladinne who heard the commotion rushed to the spot.
But by that time, the smugglers gang fled the place. The injured SI was rushed to Kavali area hospital and his condition was said to be critical. The local police and the Armed Reserve police started combing the area for the smugglers.
