Hyderabad: Students of the OU JAC on Monday clashed with police on the university campus as they were stopped from taking out a rally towards the State Legislative Assembly. They were protesting against stalling discussion on the AP Reorganisation Bill.

Tension prevailed at the campus as the students tried to defy the cops to go ahead with their programme. The police stopped the protestors at the university’s NCC gate. There were heated arguments between the students and the security personnel following which the agitating students started pelting stones at the police who responded by firing teargas shells to disperse them.

The students demanded that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill should be taken up for discussion in the ongoing session of the Assembly and also expressed their anger over divesting of Legislative Affairs portfolio held by State Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu.

The police foiled the attempts of the protesters who wanted to lay siege to the Assembly as part of 'Chalo Assembly' programme.
