Hyderabad: Several RTC employees unions have decided to go on strike from January 27. Their talks with the management on wage revision and interim relief have failed, leading to the call for a strike. Nine RTC employees’ unions have agreed to support the strike call given by APSRTC Employees’ Union.

Ashwathama Reddy, a Telangana Mazdoor Union leader, said, “Only 9,518 out of 24,577 workers engaged by the RTC are regularised. Our demand is for regularisation of the services of the remaining workers.”

Different unions have been demanding that temporary recruitment be totally scrapped. While a few unions demand interim relief, others want nothing short of wage revision.

Speaking to The Hans India, M Nageshwar Rao, the state president of National Mazdoor Union, said, “We have served a strike notice to the management. The State government had promised for a wage revision that was to happen in October 2013, but failed to implement it. We are not interested in interim relief but seek a wage revision and regularisation of contract drivers and conductors.” All the unions are getting ready for an indefinite strike from the 27th midnight.
