Rajya Sabha member Renuka Chowdary had to face the wrath of the Telangana JAC leaders at the AP Bhavan in New Delhi on Saturday.
The student JAC leaders were staging a massive dharna in front of the statue of BR Ambedkar at AP Bhavan. protesting against the Centre's decision to merge low-lying areas from Bhadrachalam district with Seemandhara region.
Renuka Chowdary arrived at the venue to extend her support. But her presence split the protestors into two groups. The protestors divided into two groups - one to support Renuka and another against her.
Situation turned tense soon as she reached the spot and agitators raised Renuka Go Back, Renuka Telangana betrayer slogans.
She, however, reached the venue amid protest from the Telangana poltical and Employee JACs.
Agitators and supporters of MP resorted to a war of slogans and counter-slogans leading to tension in the area. At one stage, there was a tussle between the supporters of the MP and the agitators.
Renuka too shouted at the agitators questioning them what right they had to drive her away.
"Mirevadra Nannu pomanadaniki?"
she asked.
The sloganeering did not stop till she left from the place. The agitators alleged that when thousands of students scarified their lives for Telangana, Renuka had never once come to visit them, but as the Telangana process is taking shape, she has come to take credit.
Renuka demanded the Centre to withdraw its decision saying Bhadrachala which houses the famous Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple has a special place in Telangana and our fight is to keep that place with us.
