Visakhapatnam: Superintendent of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal said here on Monday that 21 Militia members, including a woman, surrendered to police during the day.

At a hurriedly-convened press conference, he said the Militia members were involved in offences, like creating road blocks with the cut tree branches, summoning of villagers to CPI(Maoist) meetings, working as couriers, passing on police information to Maoists, preparing food to ‘dalam’ leaders and tying Maoist banners in the Agency area.

Those who surrendered include Gemmili Rama Rao, Tambelu Rama Rao, Korra Satti Babu, Tambelu Chalapathi Rao, alias Ramu, Gemmili Rajesh, alias Babu Rao, Tambelu Narsing Rao and Gaduthuri Kondamma, alias Prasanthi. They belong to Mukudapalli tribal hamlet.

The others were Pangi Prasad, Pangi Narayana Rao, Seendri Devadasu, Seendri Dasu, Seendri Ravi and Kankipati Balayya Padal of Kindagi village, while Gemmli Subba Rao, Pangi Chinna Nageswara Rao, Seendri Ananda Rao, alias Ananda, Seendri Devudu, Gemmjili Raju Babu, Pangi Subba Rao and Marri Besu belong to Pothuraju Gummalu village.

Officer on Special Duty A R Damodar and Additional SP D N Kishore were present.
