Govt to give its response today

Hyderabad: A PIL bench comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sen Gupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar on Monday adjourned the writ plea dealing with the action to be taken in the liquor scam in the State to Tuesday. It may be recalled that the bench earlier had asked the ACB to place before the court the charge-sheets. With the charge-sheets filed, when the bench wondered what remained in the matter, counsel Gandra Mohan Rao pointed out that the politicians in the matter were able to go scot-free in view of a government memo which shielded them.

The government memo issued in 1999 envisaged a committee that would look into the charges levelled against a MLA and only if it grants sanction, he could be prosecuted. The bench wondered the basis for such protection and adjourned the matter for the State to make clear its stance on Tuesday.
