  • To adopt Chinese development model of decentralisation
  • Promises to bring top-notch companies to the AP State

Hyderabad: Taking inspiration from the slogan of ‘Hum Honge Kamyab,’ TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday donned the role of a confidence-builder and assured the people of Seemandhra that if all of them join him and ensure that a stable government is formed, the residuary State can be brought on a par with developed states in a very short span of time.

The TDP which looks at the 2014 elections as a now-or-never kind of situation on Sunday gave a glimpse of its vision for Andhra Pradesh at a programme – ‘The Leader Meets The People – organised by AP Journalists Forum.

Naidu said he would follow the Chinese model of decentralisation. He said he would develop clusters for a particular sector in Seemandhra. Kakinada and Eluru can be petro corridors; Nellore and Krishna can be aqua centres; and Tirupati, Srisailam; Nandyal can become centres of pilgrimage; and Kadapa a mineral corridor.

He said he was also considering revival of the Buckingham Canal, which connects Coastal Andhra to Tamil Nadu. This could be an important waterway between the residual AP and Chennai, he said.

He said Andhra Pradesh state which was the first in alphabetical order should become the first state in terms of development, too. “Take this as a challenge and convert it into an opportunity for speedy growth,” he said.

Naidu said that he was giving only a glimpse of the plans he has for development for strategic reasons. He also avoided making any mention about the possible location for new capital.

Replying to questions from cross section of people, Naidu said he had proven track-record of development and bringing top business people like Bill Gates to Hyderabad which helped the IT sector to grow. “I am confident that I will be able to bring much more top-notch companies to Andhra Pradesh,” he said.

However, Naidu’s past acts continue to haunt him. APNGOs president Ashok Babu said that because of excess concentration on IT sector, students faced its side effects. Students were forced to pursue IT courses as they felt that was the only best avenue to get good jobs. This resulted in overcrowding of the sector. He also criticised Naidu for imposing ban on government recruitment and introducing contract system which had left many a youngsters jobless.

When Naidu talked on using technology to provide security for women by linking cell phones to police stations and a special team of trained volunteers, a student asked him what use it would be if the police did not act on time. Taken aback, Naidu said, “I agree with you. Yatha Raja Tatha Praja. If the government is efficient, we can control crime and bring discipline among officials.”
