Five-member committee to study new capital. The Centre has constituted a five-member committee to study and recommend the location for building the new capital of residuary Andhra Pradesh.

Hyderabad: The Centre has constituted a five-member committee to study and recommend the location for building the new capital of residuary Andhra Pradesh.

The committee comprises Ratihin Roy, Director in the rank of Secy to GOI, National Institute of Public Finance & Policy, New Delhi; Aromer Revi, Director, Indian Institute for Human Settlements; Prof. KT Ravindran, Dean Emeritus at the RICS School of Built Environment; K Shivarama Krishnan, retired IAS, Prof. Jagan Shah, Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs.

The panel would take up the task in a day or two and submit a report to the government by September 30. However, the Government has indicated that the committee will finalise its recommendations within two months. The committee is expected to go round the Seemandhra region and identify the venue for locating the new capital.

While Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada are known cities, there is a also a move to look at places like the area between Vijayawada and Guntur and Vijayawada and Eluru, as well. The committee will make its recommendations to the Centre. The Centre will also fully fund the new capital.
