Hyderabad: Early on Tuesday, the police have carried out impulsive checks on the national highway at Ampuram of Kanchili Mandal in Srikakulam district, in view of the orders of Election Commission. The police have found illegal possession of Rs.2.20L from a person. The amount was hidden inside a car. The same has been seized apart from detaining the individual.

It is worth mentioning here that Banwar Lal, the Chief Election Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh, said that so far they have seized Rs 108cr during their checks spur-of-the-moment. He addressed the media and said that they have also seized 69.5kg gold, 300kg silver apart from 4.10L litres liquor. Further, he said that EC would ensure that franchising of the votes should be more than 90% this time. If candidates have given wrong information, said Banwar Lal, criminal cases will be booked against them.

Banwar Lal urged everyone to franchise their votes. He said there was a flexibility to print model ballot papers without using the election symbols of other parties/candidates. He said that there were a total of 70,171 polling stations across the state of which 25,390 were identified as problematic areas.
