Rajahmundry: GAIL and the State Government handed over financial assistance to relatives of the fire accident victims in Nagaram of Mamidikuduru mandal. Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Nimmakayala China Rajappa on Monday handed over the compensation of Rs 4.40 crore to the families of the 20 deceased and Rs 9.50 lakh for the 19 injured.

China Rajappa said a temporary shelter has been provided to the affected people. 16 permanent houses would be constructed at a cost of Rs 2 lakh each. Apart from Rs 23 lakh for each family and Rs 50,000 for the injured, Rs 5,000 has been provided towards utensils and purchase of essential commodities.

Endowments Minister P Manikyala Rao said that the Central Government has been urged to set up three-number toll free number to provide immediate help during these kinds of calamities. GAIL Director (Projects) Dr Ashutosh Karnatak said that special inquiry would be taken up and the village would be adopted by GAIL to provide permanent amenities.
