Hyderabad: State bifurcation would likely hit the liquor industry as well. The consumption of liquor in Seemandhra districts accounts for 60% the total consumption while Telangana accounts for only 40% of the consumption.

Telangana produces 62 per cent of the Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in the state, while Seemandhra has production capacities to the tune of 38 per cent. A similar discrepancy exists in beer production, with Telangana producing nearly five times the amount of beer that Seemandhra region.

The consumption of premium liquor in Seemandhra has been more than Telangana in the last decade, but a considerable proportion of liquor is produced in Telangana. The main blow for the less production of beverages in Seemandhra is due to the more percentage of salt in the water of that region.

With the state bifurcation, the liquor lovers of Seemandhra would have to now face the problems due to more amounts of interstate taxes and other allied expenditures.
